Why do religious conservatives have such mive misconceptions about evolution..?

For example: They say the Second Law of Thermodynamics states that order progresses from disorder. This is a false characterization. It actually states: "No process is possible in which the sole result is the transfer of energy from a cooler to a hotter body." This does not try to describe anything but states of matter and energy - but creationists try to use it as a universal "law" when it clearly does not apply to life and biology. Life creates order out of disorder - Like a child grows by eating. Using one to discredit the other simply shows a misconception about both.
